Over a hundred years ago, in 1899, Joe Drinkwater, a prospector and trapper, discovered Della Falls and named them for his wife. He staked claims at the turn of the century where he built an aerial tramway which still hangs today. There are piles of rocks dispersed in the gullies near the flooded mine shafts along with rusted buckets, shovels and pipes mixed in with the wild flowers.

Della Falls

Pic by Les.

Della Falls are Canada’s highest waterfall with water falling from a height 440 meters.
Della Lake is about 1080 meters above sea level and drains into a large pond where it then flows over the edge of the cliff. Three mountains, Big Interior Mountain(1806 meters),
Mt Septimus (1950 meters), andNine Peaks (1842 meters) are nearby and provide a spectacular addition to the scenery. The Falls is located only 60 km from the town of
Port Alberni.
