The head of the lake is ice-free.
Very little snow on the first 7 km of the trail. After that the trail is unknown.
Lots of snow up high.
If the weather stays mild, the flow from Della Falls will start soon.
We will post another report as soon as we have more information.

Started on the trail at 7:30 am. We should have put bug stuff on right a way, next time. We didn’t go across the bridge that is out, we crossed about 400 m above the bridge in 1/3m of water. Made Della camp at around 4pm. Day 2 up to Love lake, a steep hike but the best view of every thing around. We went back down at 4:30 pm to our camp at Della Falls. Day 3 Up and on the way out at 9:00 am. We had lunch down on the river at Margaret Creek another great spot to stop. Made it back in time for a swim before the water taxi picked us up at 5:00pm. We will be back to go to Septimus and Rosseau and maybe Della Lake.

There are still many trees across the trail ,but it was easily passable. There is no snow on the trail. Crossing the creek were the bridge is out is relatively easy. The water is roughly 3 ft. at the deepest . The Falls had lots of water coming down.

The hike back took about 5 hours . To cross the creek one should have a rope to be safe. About 30m would be lots.

For the first 3 km the mosquitoes are bad. Some brush and trees are across the trail, also some very wet spots up to Margaret Creek. The trail is good and clear between Margaret Creek and the closed bridge, before Good Camp. About 400 m up the river is an option to cross. The water is waist high (about one meter) at fording spot. A rope at least 10 m is needed to cross.
Some snow before Steel Bridges but passable. More snow 1 km after the bridges. After this, the trail and the camp at the base of Della Falls were dry and clear.
The Falls were beautiful! At the time, it’s a real adventure and only for experienced hikers.
The river will be very high; so getting across, 400 m above the bridge that is out, since last year, will be tough. Everybody should have the right equipment for this hike. It is a class #2 trail. The next month will have the best flow over Della + Beauty Falls. There will be more to see when the Love Lake Trail opens up.

February 11th, first trail report:

The head of Great Central Lake is frozen in, the trail is under plenty of snow, and on the upper part the risk for avalanches is very high.
Last year, near the end of the hiking season, BC Parks cleaned up the trail, with one bridge still out of service. It was possible to cross the river, about 400m upstream, with caution (ropes were sometimes necessary). Repairs are planned for 2009.
Weather related, the trail does not normally open until May.
